I thought I'd tell you about what is keeping Tim busy when he's at home these days. Many of you know that last winter we discovered that our house has very little if any insulation! Needless to say, it was a very cold winter! I learned how to layer like never before. I loved going anywhere in the car because it meant I could turn on the heat and enjoy feeling toasty before going back into "The Ice House". I know that sounds terrible, but it's true. The furnace just couldn't work hard enough to keep the house warm...well, I suppose it could have but our first gas bill proved there was no way we pay for that much heat! The average temp in our house last winter was 62...and that was during the day while running the heat. When we had company, we turned it up of course. (Don't ask what it got down to at night!)
So, I don't write all this for you to feel sorry for us...I think we've actually toughened up a bit since last year. I am writing about it to tell you that Tim has begun a HUGE home project...insulating all exterior walls of the house! He hopes to do as much of the work as he can and then have "the guys who really know what they're doing" in to spray on the insulation. Tim is removing all of the woodwork around all of the windows. This is no easy task as the walls are plaster and have the tendency to crack if someone lets out a big sneeze! He also has to remove all of the old, thick trim around the bottom of each wall. Also tricky. Then, he has to use 2x4's to frame every window, door and wall. Two x 4's also have to be placed every 16 inches on every wall. He decided to start upstairs with the three bedrooms. It's a slow process but so far it's going well. I'm very proud of him. He finished our room over the weekend and when we got into bed that night I said, "I think it looks great!" And he said, "I just hope the guys don't come in to spray the insulation and say, 'who'd you hire to build these walls?'"

I will be sure to keep you posted on how the project is going.
