Tim had a youth leaders seminar in Lincoln, Nebraska on Tuesday so the girls and I tagged along and made a field trip out of it! We left on Monday afternoon and visited a Pony Express Museum in Marysville, Kansas. Interesting...
On Tuesday, we went to a fabulous children's museum in downtown Lincoln and had a great time! It was well suited for all ages and I enjoyed playing with a lot of the "toys" too! Later in the day, Tim joined us and we went to the Lincoln Zoo. The weather was beautiful and it was great to enjoy it together. We left the hotel about 8 this morning and arrived home in time to have a typical crazy Wednesday afternoon and evening. (Orchestra from 12:15-1:00, I tutor from 2:30-3:30, Lily's piano lesson from 3-3:30, orchestra again at 4:40, Lily has her youth program at church from 6-7:15, and Tim and I have youth group from 7-9pm.) Anyway...
A fun thing we did on our trip...Gracie is of course learning all about phonics and learning to spell words, etc. and Lily just began a unit on creative writing and is learning to be more observant in general as this helps in our writing. So, I decided to implement an idea I saw in a magazine. Our goal was to find all 26 letters of the alphabet...somewhere...but they can't actually be real letters. So far, we have 6. It was tougher than I thought it would be but was fun for all of us. At the zoo, I confess, I was looking for letters more than I did the animals! I posted a few examples at the bottom of the page. Now that you've read this, you may find your perspective changing...let us know if you find a letter somewhere.
Update: Our Nile River has grass growing on the banks! Hooray!!
