Streams in the Desert

If you are not familiar with the devotional book "Streams in the Desert", I highly recommend you look into it.  I had a copy of the original book waaay back in the early nineties.  (I think I loaned it to someone and well, you know how that works out sometimes...)  I received an updated edition of the book as a gift shortly after moving to Kansas.  Although it is a book that has a short reading for each day of the year...it never gets old and I've found myself using it year after year.
There are several reasons why I love this book;
*it isn't a "happy, lovey, feel good because nothing bad ever happens" sort of book...it deals with the nitty gritty, the rough times, the seasons of life when it's cloudy for a long time
*both the original author and the the editor have been through excruciatingly difficult circumstances in their own lives which is why what they've written has so much credibility
*the writing is deep, in such a way that I often have to reread  portions to be sure I've fully soaked up all that is there
And, of course, the reason I really love the book is because it's based on the unshakable, unchangeable,  sovereign, perfect Word of God!
