Happy Birthday, Tim!

Today we celebrated Tim's birthday...we were "pretending" as Gracie said. His birthday is actually the 19th but as that is a Sunday, we knew there would no time for true celebrating. We drove over to Manhattan, Kansas, about an hour and half away and spent the afternoon at a small but enjoyable zoo. The weather was a cool 70or so and the sky a beautiful blue. Tim had spotted a b-b-q place on the way into town and chose to go there for an early dinner. It was very good, the place was hopping and we all ate too much! We passed on dessert as I had made an apple pie for Tim to have at home. Some of you may know, he isn't a big sweet eater and it is often difficult to find a cake that impresses him. The pie worked so we put candles in it and enjoyed it 'a la mode. Then he opened his presents. Lily gave him homemade Oatmeal Raisin cookies and a package of Swedish Fish. (Extra points go to whoever knows what those are...) Gracie gave him a package of Peppermint Patties because he does like those. I struggled a bit on what to get Tim. He rarely asks for anything and if he does he says things like, "I could use some more white socks." So, I settled on an Ipod. We're not exactly "up" on all the technological things this world has to offer. This is our first Ipod. I hadn't told the girls about it...Gracie for obvious reasons and Lily because I thought she might think it was a family gift and put dibs on it! (She did have a starry-eyed look about her when he opened it.) Anyway, I think it will be handy for him to have. He was very pleased.
It was great to get out of town for the day. The past few weeks have been more stressful than normal for Tim. We had a great time being together! We had just put Gracie to bed when Tim got a call from one of the boys in youth group. He was about 30 miles away from town and had hit a deer. His parents are out of town for the weekend. He was really upset so Tim went to pick him up. Never a dull moment. I'm thankful we had our day together.
